PURA MUERTE

acrylic on canvas

Special piece to me not only because it’s symbolic of my latin culture but because it was the first painting where I made the canvas from scratch.

This piece conveys the glorification of Cuban culture, while the country is consistently decaying, hence the skeleton in authentic cuban attire.

MARIPOSA

oil on canvas

One of my first oil paintings and I am so proud of it!

Mariposa is significant of my Cuban culture and my abandonment from it growing up.

This piece symbolizes all the beautiful things that my birth country possesses. From salsa music to gorgeous mountain tops, as well as the national flower known as mariposa. I wanted to show what it felt like losing touch with my Latinidad growing up in America.

THROUGH OUR HANDS

leaves, canvas, acrylic paint, masion jar, ink

Our environment is constantly being torn apart, and mainly by humanity. I’ve decided to convey the tearing away of our precious trees through this beautiful painting that not only captures the eye but the harshness of our doing.

This piece is meant to express the limitations of our environment by focusing on and making aware the reality of deforestation and the harm we set upon our own planet. Focusing on the limitations of materials and our environment, I wanted to portray that vision about our decaying forests.

LE BLUES

acrylic paint on canvas

My high school teacher submited this piece for a student competition at the Tampa Museum of Art, and I ended up winning the the congressional award which was decided by Tampa congresswoman, Kathy Castor.

I was in complete shock when I won the award, but I was ultimately so happy. The award had my piece hang in the Capitol Building in Washington D.C. for a WHOLE year.
